The left side of the house was taken off to build the building next door. Owners had twice covered it with substitute siding. See photographic image 319 DuPage.jpg below. Dan Miller email 4/11/2021.
They tuckpointed the building using brixment insted of a soft lime mortar. The owner could not afford our masonry specialist. They did not try hard enough to match the color. Dan Miller email 4/13/2021.

For years that house had been rumored to be a cobblestone. The owner finally asked me to look into it. The house had been stuccoed and then aluminum-sided. I took some off and we were very pleasantly surprised to see cobblestone. Our neighborhood organization has an event called the great unveiling where we take off substitute siding for people for free in the spirit of an old-fashioned barn raising. We also give them a $1000 reward to help with the renovation. We have done over 30 houses in 40 years. We had a lot of fun on that one. Above is a picture of the group that did it and one of the house with two coats of substitute siding on it. Dan Miller emails 4/17/2021 and 5/3/2021.
